Portable Fire Extinguisher Supply & Servicing
Fire Extinguisher Service Dorset
We service and supply all types of fire extinguisher to the British Standard BS5306. Our Fireline engineers provide the leading fire extinguisher servicing Dorset has to offer and are fully qualified to inspect and service portable fire extinguishers. Extinguishers that are not maintained annually to the British Standard are no longer considered compliant.
Fire extinguishers must be serviced and maintained on a regular basis. Without this taking place, you will be in breach of fire legislation.
Please Note – If regular servicing is not completed, in the event of a fire, your insurance may be rendered null and void.
Did You Know?
Employers have a legal responsibility under the Fire Safety Order (FSO) to ensure that all fire extinguishers located within the workplace are regularly serviced. This legislation is in place to ensure that they are kept in good repair and working order should they be needed.
To ensure compliance with this fire safety legislation, a designated ‘responsible person’ from your organisation should carry out visual inspections to ensure that each extinguisher has not been damaged or accidentally discharged.
Please Note – These inspections should ideally be carried out at monthly intervals, but certainly no more than quarterly.
Regular Maintenance and Servicing
We are also able to carry out maintenance and check-ups for your fire extinguishers. Basic servicing is required for all types of extinguisher on an annual basis to ensure they are in working order.
There are many types of fire extinguisher, including:
- Automatic Fire Extinguishers
- Chrome Fire Extinguishers
- CO2 Fire Extinguishers
- Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers
- Dry Water Mist Fire Extinguishers
- Foam (AFFF) Fire Extinguishers
- Water Fire Extinguishers
- Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers
If your organisation employs five people or more, you must also hold written records of all service, maintenance and inspections. This should be recorded in a Fire Log Book.
Your extinguishers should be properly serviced once a year by a suitably-qualified engineer. Fireline engineers are BAFE-registered and can offer a full maintenance package, including the sale of new portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets helping to ensure you have total piece of mind for your staff and business knowing that you are 100% compliant to current fire safety legislation.

Under the British Standard, an extended service - otherwise known as discharge testing - is to be carried out at stipulated intervals. For water, foam, dry powder or wet chemical extinguishers, this is every 5 years. CO2 extinguishers require extended servicing every 10 years. In the case of powder or CO2 extinguishers, you will be offered a service exchange unit which is more practical and economical than emptying and refilling the contents.
Our Service Department will remind you when your annual service is due and make the necessary arrangements for an engineer to visit. Furthermore, we operate an online database which means your servicing and equipment records (including manufacturer, year of manufacture, next test discharge date and each extinguisher's location) is maintained in our database, to which you will also have access. This is particularly beneficial if you are a multi-site company, as at a glance you can see in real-time when sites are due a service.

Process of Commissioning
Commissioning of a new or refurbished extinguisher should be carried out by a competent person. After removal from its packaging and transit protection, and immediately before being placing in its designated location, the extinguisher must undergo the sequence of commissioning service actions described in British Standards, with the safety precautions being carefully observed.
In the event that the manufacturer has not marked the mass of the extinguisher or a nominal range of mass for the extinguisher, the competent person should consult the manufacturer’s workshop manual for that model or contact the manufacturer to obtain this information.
When all of these checks have been satisfactorily completed, the extinguisher should be installed and positioned in accordance with BS 5306-8
